Clark Atlanta University Wins Court Ruling to Regain 13 Acres of Valuable Land

In 1940, what is now Clark Atlanta University deeded 13 acres of land to Morris Brown College. The agreement stated that ownership of the land would revert back to the university if the property no longer was used for educational purposes. That 1940 agreement has been upheld. The land is adjacent to the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Southern University Reports a Turnaround in Enrollments

Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, reports that for the first time in seven years, there has been significant increases in enrollments. The university reports that the number of new first-time students is up 13 percent from a year ago.

Morgan State has entered into a partnership that will allow students who graduate with associate's degrees from Prince George's Community College and Howard Community College, to study for bachelor's degrees in engineering or psychology at the Laurel College Center.

Record First-Year Enrollments at Tennessee State University in Nashville

There are more than 1,500 students in this fall's entering class. This is the largest first-year class in the university's history and 17 percent more entering students than was the case a year ago. Increased enrollments have prompted a plan to build a new $75 million residential complex on campus.

Winston-Salem State University Offers a New Online Nursing Degree Program

According to the North Carolina Board of Nursing, only about 35 percent of North Carolina’s 106,000 licensed nurses have obtained a bachelor's degree. Winston-Salem State University has announced a new competency-based online degree program to address this concern.

Delaware State University Partners With Beihua University in China

Under the agreement students at Beihua University will complete three years of study in China. They will then come to Delaware State for one semester of intensive study of English. Upon completion, they will be eligible for admission to the master's degree program in physics at Delaware State.

U.S. News Names Its Choices for the Best Black Colleges and Universities

As was the case last year, Spelman College in Atlanta was ranked as the nation's best HBCU. Howard University in Washington, D.C. was ranked second. Both HBCUs made impressive gains in the overall rankings of national universities and colleges.

HBCUs Report Impressive Enrollment Gains

Alcorn State University in Mississippi reports that the first-year class is the largest in university history. There are 740 entering students this year, an increase of 38 percent from a year ago. Several other HBCUs have also reported impressive gains.

Delaware State University Improves Its Nursing Education Program

From 2007-2014, an average of 62 percent of the graduates of the Delaware State University program passed the licensing examination. This year 90 percent of the students in the graduating class passed the examination on their first attempt.

America Makes is a multi-agency collaboration among industry, universities, and government partners, led by the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Defense, Education, NASA, and the National Science Foundation that conducts research into additive manufacturing and 3D printing technology.
