Job Description:
Position Purpose
The Associate Construction Manager oversees and coordinates construction projects across the campus, guiding them from concept through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout. Projects span a wide range, including complex capital renovations, new building developments, laboratory fit-outs, academic and administrative space enhancements, and utility or building system upgrades. This role also responds to emergency or unplanned construction events and may occasionally manage new capital initiatives. For larger, more complex projects, the Associate Construction Manager may collaborate under the direction of a senior-level Construction Manager.
The position requires a proactive and collaborative approach, fostering strong partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, project teams, and campus community members. The Associate Construction Manager ensures that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and meet high-quality standards, contributing to the University’s academic mission, community needs, and infrastructure renewal efforts.
Job Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in project or construction management, including roles in new construction and/or major renovations.
- Experience with construction contract administration, cost management, and project scheduling.
- Experience as an owner’s representative or clerk-of-the-works in a University setting or other large, diverse institutional setting preferred.
- Professional certification in project or construction management (e.g., PMP, CCM) is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience of construction industry-standard practices and processes, related to job site management and control, safety, schedule development and management, cost monitoring and control, QA/QC
- Knowledge of building codes and practices, as well as systems including envelop, roofs, structural, A/V, IT, MEP, HVAC, FA/FP, lighting, security and control systems.
- Proficiency in construction project management software (e.g., Primavera, Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, BIM).
- Familiarity with architectural, engineering, design, and construction best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively coordinate stakeholders.
- Problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
