Job Description:

The Associate Director, Alumni Events and Experiences leads and manages a group of Alumni Relations professionals who provide planning, execution, and support for alumni events, including Reunion and other events off and on-campus. Working closely with the Director of Alumni Events & Experiences, the Associate Director helps to oversee Brown Reunion, an annual on-campus weekend that welcomes thousands of alumni, family, and friends to campus to reconnect with Brown. This position plays a leading role in collaborating with alumni class leaders and other volunteers to plan and support cohort-specific reunion events and all-alumni events for the reunion program.

The Associate Director also plays an important role across the department, collaborating with other Alumni Relations colleagues focused on event programming and planning, ensuring stellar events are executed and alums have a positive experience. This role will include occasional evening or weekend work, including a firm commitment to working during Brown Reunion, which takes place each Memorial Day weekend.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field such as event planning, higher education, nonprofits, event management, customer service, and project management

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a creative self-starter with the ability to think strategically, possess superior people skills, and be able to juggle many highly sensitive issues and tasks at once.
  • Extremely detail-oriented while always keeping an eye toward the larger goals of each event and demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest standards.
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly and think clearly under pressure is critical.
  • Demonstrated professional, customer-service oriented and positive attitude.
  • Strong leadership presence in all types of event settings.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills with the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, and evaluate and analyze event programs and services.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google suite of tools, experience with web and email technology, experience using databases, and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with finesse in interacting with faculty, senior administration, and high-profile alumni.  A strong relationship builder who is diplomatic and has a talent for successful negotiation.  
  • Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Facility with budget management, budget-forecasting, and excellent analytical skills
  • Creativity, motivation, and superior problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm under pressure and during times of extremely high work volume, which is most often a seasonal occurrence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous responsibility for people management (staff, contractors, students, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Brown University and/or experience in higher education.
