Job Description:
The Foreign National Payroll Specialist is a critical member of both Foreign National Tax and University Payroll offices. They are responsible for assisting with day to day operations as well as ensuring compliance of nonresident alien (NRA) payments processed through Payroll. This includes hourly/salary wages, stipends, fellowships, and graduate student stipend/fellowship appointments. Prior to each payroll completion, they will assist with reviewing NRA pay components, running integrations, reviewing reports and workbooks, and assist with tax corrections. They will ensure NRAs are eligible to receive payments, available treaty benefits are applied, immigration data in Sprintax Calculus is current and accurate, and taxes are withheld in accordance with Federal, State, and Immigration Statutes. They are responsible for providing high quality customer service to all faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate employees at Brown. In addition, the position will have customer service duties related to their team and any received by the Payroll Office to answer questions/emails about nonresident aliens. This may require individual meetings to meet the needs of our foreign national population and the departments who support them. They will also serve as a backup for the Foreign National Tax Specialist.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in business or accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two to three years of related experience
- High level of written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to elicit and communicate information in a clear, informative and concise manner.
- Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize in a pressured environment.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills, plus meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong ability to work with a diverse group of people with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
- Experience with federal work authorization procedures and payroll preferable.
- Experience using Sprintax Calculus and Workday is preferred.
- Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Google Sheets and Doc Skills
