Job Description:
Position Purpose
The Research Assistant (RA) will primarily support a research study that will examine co-use of tobacco and cannabis among young adults, with a smaller amount of time devoted to a pilot study enrolling young adults who smoke and are willing to switch to a reduced-harm product. Both studies are primarily laboratory-based. Work activities involve managing recruitment of study participants; conducting in-person research sessions, including tobacco and cannabis cue administration, biosample collection, and interviews with study participants; participant tracking and retention; reviewing data quality and managing datafiles, documenting project procedures, and managing participant payments. The RA is expected to collaborate with project staff to maintain variable directories and other project documentation, conduct reviews of the empirical literature as needed, assemble materials for IRB modifications and progress reports. and supporting all other investigator research needs. The RA may manage undergraduates to assist with some of these tasks. Opportunities for authorship on peer-reviewed publications will be available.
Major responsibilities include:
- Participant scheduling and study sessions 50%
- Participant tracking and monitoring completion status 20%
- Managing data collected through laboratory methodology 10%
- Assist with preparing reports and dissemination materials 10 %
- Serve as fund custodian for disbursement of participant payments 10 %
Job Qualifications and Competencies
Education and Experience
- Required: BA or BS in psychology or related field required. A least 2 years of experience preferred.
- Required: Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Required: Experience in research design and experience with human subjects research
- Experience managing databases is preferred
- Experience in the fields of addiction and/or substance abuse is preferred
- Experience with management of daily diary data is preferred
- Experience with SPSS software preferred
- Flexibility in work schedule is preferable, including possible evening hours and weekends
- Personal transportation is preferred.
- Experience with or interest in social media/marketing preferred.
- Experience managing others is preferred.
