Job Description:
Under the supervision of the leadership team (i.e. Principal Investigator, Project Director, and Project Manager), the RA provides recruitment, enrollment, and data collection support with the ongoing implementation of randomized control trials to test behavioral interventions targeting HIV prevention and treatment; sexual and gender minority health; and substance use among diverse populations such as sex workers and sexual minority men. The candidate must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community. This Research Assistant (RA) position is a hybrid-eligible role.
The RA will assist with implementing recruitment and retention efforts that lead to study participation; arranging and conducting studying visits with participants; coordinating with other community partner recruitment sites; maintaining regulatory procedures and assisting in the development of study materials; and other administrative or community engaged tasks as required.
The RA will also be responsible for assisting with the publication of research findings through editing, writing, and preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations; assisting with study progress reports as needed; maintaining current knowledge of relative research by reading medical journals, articles, and other related publications; attending conferences, seminars, forums, trainings and other presentations pertinent to the field.
Major responsibilities include:
- Executes recruitment efforts that lead to study participation – 30%
- Conducts interviews and arranges study visits with study participants as specified by study protocol – 40%
- Develops study materials and maintains regulatory procedures – 20%
- Assists in development of research projects and publication of study findings – 10%
Job Qualification and Competencies
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social science research or related field preferred. 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

● Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for assignments and deadlines and to work as part of a team
● Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize
● Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and computer (Microsoft Word, Power-Point, Email) skills
● Familiarity and comfort working with people with injection drug use; receiving treatment for opioid use disorder and sexual and gender minorities preferred
Experience/Other Preferred Skills
● Prior experience conducting human subjects research
● Undergraduate coursework in statistics and research methods
● Prior experience with REDcap database software preferred
● Bilingual (English and Spanish)
● Prior experience with community-engagement such as volunteering
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
Additional physical demands and working conditions:
This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of 9/31/25 which may be extended based upon available funding.
This is a hybrid-eligible position. Ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
