Job Description:

The Senior Research Assistant (Intervention Provider) is a clinical and participant-based research position that will be part of the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute.  The Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute, works closely with community-based collaborators to develop, implement, and evaluate public health interventions and policies that aim to improve access to care and address health equity, among children and their families.

The Hassenfeld Institute is looking for a team member with experience in behavioral health and family facilitation to provide a brief behavioral health intervention to parents and youth in families impacted by substance use disorders. The successful applicant will work closely with the Project Managers and other Research Assistants, as well as the Principal Investigators, on efforts that will have a direct impact on adolescents and their families.

The position will be primarily responsible for training in the principles of a behavioral health intervention, delivering the intervention to parents and youth, providing structured feedback to the research team on your experience, and assisting in data interpretation. Other responsibilities may include participant recruitment and enrollment, data entry and monitoring, and scheduling follow-up surveys for data collection and intervention sessions. This role will be engaging with English/Spanish-speaking research participants. The position is part-time, 20 hours per week.  Applicants must have availability for in-person work.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of February 28, 2025, which may be extended based upon available funding.  All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University. This is a hybrid eligible position.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and 3 to 5 years of research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants should have a background in working with families or youth and in providing counseling or other mental health supports. Applicant backgrounds may include community health work, family outreach work, social work or psychology training, or other relevant fields.

Experience

  • Experience with completing clinical interviews.
  • Experience working with adolescents and families.
  • Experience with managing confidential personal information.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred.

  • Ability to interact well with adolescents, parents, and other health care personnel.
  • Ability to discuss sensitive topics, including substance use and mental health concerns.
  • High level of comfort with technology that enables virtual interactions (e.g., Zoom) and documentation.
  • Ability to compile and enter data accurately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, high level of professionalism and organization required.
  • Efficient time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently with little structure.
  • Willing to travel locally to conduct study activities.
  • Flexibility to support a varying work schedule which may involve evenings and weekends.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
