Position Description: The Arts Management Program in the School of the Arts at the College of Charleston (artsmgmt.cofc.edu) invites applications for the Associate Professor/Program Director of Arts Management position beginning August 2024. The successful candidate will have robust academic and leadership experience with a record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor in the Arts Management Program at the College of Charleston. Preference for this position will be given to candidates with a connection to an arts discipline; a demonstrated interest in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the program and in arts organizations; and expertise in one or more of the following areas: arts policy, fundraising and grant writing, creativity, and arts marketing.
The Associate Professor/Program Director is responsible for overseeing the operational and strategic management of the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management Program and Graduate Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management. The teaching load is four courses per year, and the incumbent is expected to regularly conduct research, engage with arts and cultural organizations, supervise faculty and staff, contribute to program development, advise and mentor students, and perform service to the College, community, and arts management profession.
Minimum Credentials: A terminal degree in arts management or a closely related field is required. (If the degree is in a related field, at least 18 hours of arts management-related graduate coursework is required.) The candidate should also have a track record of scholarly research and academic managerial experience as a program director, coordinator, or related role in a university environment. The successful candidate will have 5-7+ years of experience in arts management which can include a combination of teaching arts management and closely related courses at the college level and leadership experience in the arts. Candidates with both undergraduate and graduate teaching experience as well as online teaching are preferred.
