Elon University, the nationally recognized leader in engaged experiential learning that prepares graduates to be creative, resilient, ambitious and ethical citizens of our global culture seeks a visionary, student-centered leader to serve as the inaugural dean of the newly established School of Engineering and Computing. This new academic unit will house the existing departments of Engineering and Computer Science – programs characterized by their rapid growth, commitment to engaged learning, and central roles in Elon’s emerging Innovation Quad. The newly established school will include 18 full-time faculty, three full-time staff positions, and more than 300 undergraduate students. The dean will provide leadership to bring these departments together into a cohesive school that honors Elon’s tradition of academic excellence while building new pathways for innovation in engineering, computing, and related fields. The inaugural dean will shape the identity, culture, and strategic direction of the school, and strengthen existing programs while developing new offerings that respond to the evolving landscape of engineering and computing.
Reporting to the provost, the dean will serve as the school’s chief academic and administrative officer, guiding faculty excellence, supporting student success, stewarding resources, and representing the school to internal and external partners. The Dean will be a champion of outstanding teaching and experiential learning which has led Elon to be ranked No. 1 in the nation for undergraduate teaching for five consecutive years by U.S. News and World Report. The Dean must be a collaborative and strategic leader, inspiring champion, and a relationship developer working with alumni, industry, and donors to generate support and excitement for the newly established school and its subsequent growth for years to come.
