The Department of Biology at Emmanuel College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in Fall 2025. We seek a broadly trained biologist that shares the Department’s commitment to inclusive STEM pedagogy and practices. The successful colleague will teach lectures, research-based lab courses, and upper-level electives in their area of specialization. We are particularly interested in a colleague with expertise in any of the following areas: biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, and inclusive STEM pedagogy. The faculty member will develop a research program with undergraduate student scientists, with a commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups in STEM, while leveraging collaborations with faculty colleagues at the college, the surrounding Longwood Medical Area, and/or the greater Boston science community. Faculty at Emmanuel instruct the equivalent of three courses per semester, using inclusive teaching practices that support a diverse student body, advise and mentor undergraduate student scientists, including those from historically underrepresented groups, and participate in departmental and college-wide service activities. The Department of Biology is located in the Wilkens Science Center, blocks from the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, and is equipped with excellent teaching resources, research facilities, and scientific instrumentation. These instruments include an automated fluorescence microscope, biosafety cabinets for mammalian cell culture, a real-time PCR instrument, and a state-of-the-art flow cytometer.
Candidates must have a PhD in biology or a related field, and a commitment to teaching and research with undergraduates; postdoctoral experience is preferred.
