Fairfield University’s Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Religious Studies in the area of Buddhist Studies beginning in the fall of 2024 (pending final budget approval). The Department of Religious Studies enjoys a collegial culture that values intellectual exchange and active mentorship of faculty.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a field relevant to the discipline of Buddhist Studies. A specialization in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism is preferred. The candidate should also be prepared to demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and show promise of scholarly contributions to the field with a solid grounding in the languages and literatures of the discipline. The ability to engage with any number of the interdisciplinary programs at the University, such as Asian Studies, Peace & Justice Studies, Health Studies, or Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, among other possibilities, is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will teach 3 sections each semester. These courses can be offered at both the introductory 1000-level as well as the more advanced 2000-level.
