Fairfield University’s Department of Religious Studies invites applications for the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Chair in Judaic Studies. The holder of the Chair will also serve as the Director of the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies. Scholars at the rank of Associate Professor or higher are sought to fill this important position, which begins in the fall of 2025 pending final budget approval.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a field relevant to Judaic Studies and possess expertise in the discipline of Religious Studies. The candidate should have a demonstrable record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarly publications, and experience in programming. As a faculty member with an endowed chair, the successful candidate will teach a 2/2 course load per academic year, take part in appropriate departmental, university, and professional service, and offer a variety of Judaic Studies courses that serve both the Department of Religious Studies and the minor in Judaic Studies. As the Director of the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, the successful candidate, with the administrative support of a Program Manager, will host a well-established series of lectures and programming for students, staff, faculty, and the wider Greater Fairfield/Bridgeport community.
