Howard University, a comprehensive, research-intensive historically Black private University, seeks an inspirational and collaborative leader to serve as the next Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). Howard provides an educational experience of exceptional quality at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels to students of high academic standing and potential. The University is also dedicated to attracting and sustaining a cadre of faculty who are committed to the development of distinguished, historically aware, and compassionate graduates through their teaching, research, and service. In 2025, Howard is expecting to be classified as the only HBCU to be designated as a Research 1 institution, a distinction enjoyed by less than four percent of universities in the nation and an indication of its impressive and rapidly growing research portfolio.

CEA prides itself on providing its approximately 1,200 undergraduate and 110 graduate students with a hands-on education that prepares them to become informed citizens, broadly educated in the humanities and social sciences and prepared to practice in a variety of areas within the fields of engineering, architecture and computer science. CEA’s faculty are committed to providing their students with a world class education and preparing them to be at the forefront of their respective disciplines upon graduation. Reporting to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Howard, the Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer at the College of Engineering and Architecture. The Dean will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial health of the College and will promote a culture of innovation and excellence, enhancing CEA’s position as an eminent college of engineering and architecture that provides a world-class education to students, conducts groundbreaking research across disciplines, and engages with partners across the nation and world. The Dean must be a collaborative leader, inspiring champion, and a relationship developer working with alumni, industry, and donors to generate support and excitement for its endeavors and continued growth.
