Visiting Assistant Professor of Costume Design

IWU invites applications for a full time visitor appointment at the Assistant Professor level. Nine month contract for two years starts August 15, 2024. Candidates with breadth of knowledge, familiarity with theatrical production, facility for collaboration and teaching skills are sought. Candidates must possess an MFA at the time of appointment, experience in higher education preferred.

This position combines teaching and production responsibilities. Teaching can be in rotation: beginning costume technology, costume crafts, costume design, costume and fashion history, stage makeup, hair/wigs design, visual concepts, rendering, drawing for the theatre, and fundamentals of design. Design responsibilities include: designing or supervising student designers for our Mainstage or Laboratory season (up to a total of six productions), facilitating guest artist designers as needed, and shared supervision of undergraduate students enrolled in Theatre Laboratory. Independent study courses and special topics courses connected to student designers and their projects will be part of this appointment’s design responsibilities.
