
Community and Business Engagement Specialist
Penn State Abington is searching for a full-time Community & Business Engagement Specialist. This position will support the mission, vision, and strategies of the Office of Strategic Communications and Community Engagement as well as the Office of Continuing Education. The successful candidate would be responsible for programmatic community and business outreach efforts that align with campus-wide goals and objectives and increase the brand, awareness, and participation in continuing education programs.
Essential responsibilities for the position include developing and maintaining relationships with business, residential, employer, and education institutions and other stakeholder groups as identified. Candidates will also develop and manage continuing education programs that meet the needs of new client partners and advance the financial goals of Continuing Education programming.
The position dually reports to the Director of Continuing Education and Innovation and Director of Strategic Communications and Community Engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage activities that develop and foster relationships with public and private entities and cultivate new business and community partnerships
- Provide stewardship of existing relationships and ensure partner organizations’ needs are identified and matched with Penn State Abington resources for mutual benefit
- Proactively seek out opportunities and develop strategies for outreach and engagement solicitations, collaborating with a variety of other units
- Serve as Abington College’s lead on “town and gown” related matter
- May serve as direct supervisor for wage payroll, student, and/or temporary workers or volunteers
Responsibilities Pertaining to Continuing Education
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholder groups including Chambers of Commerce, associations, and employers and others as assigned and identified
- Proactively expand existing and build new partnerships for contract training
- Identify, consult with, and assess organization client needs to develop program proposals/negotiate contracts in conjunction with Director of Continuing Education; may moderate trainings as needed
- Evaluate and analyze program outcomes; use data to inform decision-making
- Work with Continuing Education peers to promote and market programs and certifications
- Support community outreach efforts that lead to growth of awareness and usage of LaunchBox programs at Abington
Responsibilities Pertaining to Strategic Communications and Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholder groups, including nonprofit organizations, employers, educational institutions, civic associations, and others as assigned and identified
- Manage sponsorship of community events throughout the year
- Identify and create opportunities for faculty and subject matter experts to appear at public or private speaking engagements
- Work with StratComm peers to promote and market Abington-sponsored events
- Represent Penn State Abington at stakeholder events
This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to travel locally and work evenings/weekends as needed for networking and events is required.
