Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for students from historically underserved, marginalized, and/or disproportionately impacted communities as part of a commitment to promoting social justice and equity.

The faculty member may collaborate with the campus Umoja Program and ASHÉ Center (programs specially designed to increase the retention and success rates as well as the graduation and transfer rates of African ancestry students).

Position Salary Information:

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Assignment Responsibilities

The instructional assignment may include (but is not limited to) courses with a primary focus on African American History, such as:

HIST 320: History of the United States: African-American Emphasis

HIST 321: History of the United States: African-American Emphasis

A secondary instructional focus may include other courses offered in the History Department, such as African History, United States History, or other history courses offered in the department, such as:

HIST 360: African Civilization

HIST 310: History of the United States (to 1877)

HIST 311: History of the United States (1865-Present)

Minimum Qualifications

Have a Master’s in history; OR Bachelor’s in history AND Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science or ethnic studies; OR the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 22, 2024.
