The Department of Theology in the School of Humanities, Arts and Sciences at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position. Rank and salary commensurate with experience.

Our Theology Department values cultural and religious diversity, striving for a climate of inclusive excellence. Our faculty are creative, compassionate, and adaptable, and are committed to meeting the changing needs of our student body. In the College for Women, nearly fifty percent of our students come from communities of color, and thirty-five percent are first-generation college students. Religious diversity on our campus has also increased dramatically in recent years. Our commitment to women, liberal arts, inclusiveness, and social justice are rooted in our Catholic identity and in the legacy of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who strive to serve the dear neighbor without distinction.

Our Theology faculty engage in teaching, scholarship, and service across various programs in all of our colleges and in the core curriculum. Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and advise and support undergraduate students who are passionate about social justice and plan to use their training to lead and influence.
  • Teach classes that are ecumenical, interfaith, and will meet the needs of students from a variety of religious backgrounds, including Muslim, Animist, Buddhist, Indigenous spiritualities, and non-Catholic Christians as well as more advanced topics courses that appeal to students from a variety of majors.
  • Teach The Reflective Woman, a first year, writing intensive seminar class required of all first year students.
  • Teach six courses (24 credits) per academic year across fall, January, and spring terms.
    Teach Theology courses at both the introductory and upper level, and also teach in the University’s core curriculum.
  • Teach in a variety of formats including traditional face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online.
  • Create knowledge in the discipline resulting in its dissemination through the publication of peer-reviewed articles.
  • Produce excellent scholarship in the form of academic publications as well as collaborative research and writing with students, writing for popular and church audiences.
  • Engage in service activities with the department, university, professional organizations and community.

The Theology department offers both a major and minor. We value applicants willing to engage in collaborative research with students and who are eager to undertake Interdisciplinary teaching in general and with colleagues from the Health Care fields in particular.

St. Catherine University in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a comprehensive Catholic university and home to one of the nation’s largest colleges for women, with associate and graduate programs for both women and men. Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD, Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STD), or other terminal degree
  • ABD with completion before July 1, 2025
  • Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate Theology courses to a diverse student population, including both introductory and advanced theology courses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • We especially welcome applicants whose focus is in areas such as Eco-theology, varieties of feminist theology, or who are conversant with world spiritualities.
