Senior Lecturer – Job Description 

The Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics at Stanford University is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Senior Lecturer to help develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the department. The appointment will be made at the Senior Lecturer level. An appointment as a Senior Lecturer is a full-time (12-month) position with an initial term appointment (up to 5 years) that is renewable in subsequent years.

The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching undergraduate courses in the Aero & Astro curriculum, with the possibility to teach graduate courses as well. The candidate is expected to teach a minimum of 5 quarter courses per year. This position will enhance current courses offered and will develop new courses as needed. Many of these courses are likely to include significant hands-on and project-based content as well as in-class demonstrations. Additionally, the position will be expected to: lead and participate in committees related to curriculum structure, pedagogical elements, teaching facilities and overall success of the Aeronautics & Astronautics undergraduate program; disseminate best teaching practices among faculty and lecturers; be involved in the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) summer program; advise undergraduate students to navigate the Aero & Astro curriculum and graduation requirements. Other duties may be assigned. This position will report to the Aeronautics & Astronautics Department Chair.

Education & Experience: All candidates must hold a Master’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines: Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. Applicants should possess deep knowledge of core application areas in Aeronautics & Astronautics (such as aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, guidance, navigation & control, autonomy, space mechanics, remote sensing, vehicle design, manufacturing, etc.) including system-level interactions and practical applications. Applicants should have a strong commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for excellence in teaching. Prior experience developing and synergizing various elements of an undergraduate curriculum is preferred.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and with external organizations.

The expected base pay range for this position is $147,518 – $180,765.
