Auxiliary Adjunct Professor of Music Theory

The Shenandoah Conservatory

The Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University seeks a talented instructor to serve as a sabbatical replacement throughout the 2024–25 academic year. The qualified candidate will be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate coursework from the four-semester sequence to upper-level form and analysis. Some graduate-level teaching is also required.

The chosen candidate will be skilled as a music theory faculty member who is passionate about preparing students for careers in the 21st century, and will further strengthen Shenandoah Conservatory’s reputation as an inclusive and premier place of study where artists from diverse backgrounds actively engage around innovative and collaborative work.

Specifically, the desired candidate will

  • fill in for consecutive one-semester sabbaticals across the 2024–25 academic year;
  • teach a wide range of undergraduate- and graduate-level coursework;
  • supervise student work/documents;
  • participate in division meetings; and
  • engage in the Conservatory’s commitment to Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • a doctorate in music theory or composition by the time of appointment (August, 2024)
  • teaching experience in music theory at the college level
  • commitment to artistic excellence, and a passion for mentorship within higher education

Preferred

  • knowledge of multiple repertoires, including popular music, musical theater, and jazz
  • record of innovative approaches to music theory pedagogy
