Texas A&M University–San Antonio (A&M-SA) seeks an experienced executive administrator and collaborative leader to serve as the next vice president for student affairs (VPSA).
Since its founding as an upper-division institution of higher education in south San Antonio in 2009, A&M-SA has grown into a contemporary, comprehensive, four-year public university that reflects the culturally diverse, heritage-rich community it serves. During this period, the university has impacted lives in south San Antonio and its surrounding communities, providing access to quality education while becoming a catalyst for regional growth, with countless stories of the students, graduates, faculty, and staff who are on a mission to discover, inspire, lead, and create. Designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution in 2017, the university currently serves over 7,600 students and has graduated more than 15,000 alumni. As the fastest-growing university in the Texas A&M System and the only A&M institution of higher learning in a major metropolitan area, A&M-SA is quickly expanding to fill its nearly 700-acre campus.
Reporting directly to President Salvador Hector Ochoa, A&M-SA’s next vice president for student affairs will lead the student affairs division and collaborate with campus leaders to execute the university’s strategic plan – Transforming Tomorrow Together. Furthermore, the next VPSA will support the university’s commitment to student engagement and success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that provide wraparound supports to A&M-SA students and enrich student learning while building and maintaining a strong sense of community. Working with students, administration, faculty, and staff, the VPSA will serve as an advocate for the holistic development and growth of a student population that represents many different backgrounds and life experiences.
The incoming VPSA will be an energetic professional with the cultural competence, skill set, experience, and knowledge required to lead A&M-SA’s recently renamed Division of Student Affairs. The VPSA will demonstrate a deep and authentic commitment to students and their academic success, and partner with faculty and academic administrators to support these efforts. The next VPSA will also have large-scale fiscal-management experience; a record of effectively managing and supporting teams; deep knowledge about best practices in student affairs combined with creative thinking and a record of innovation; and the ability to leverage data and assessment practices in decision-making to ensure that activities within the division are advancing the university’s strategic goals. A master’s degree is required; a doctorate is strongly preferred.
