The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting a faculty member with an interest in the clinical evaluation of children and adolescents who have possibly been abused and/or neglected. The completion of a Child Abuse Pediatrics (CAP) Fellowship is not required for this position. Candidates should have experience in the evaluation of children who have been abused and/or neglected. Candidates will be expected to dedicate up to 50% of their clinical time to child abuse evaluations.
We are seeking Pediatric Hospitalists, Academic General Pediatricians, or Critical Care Pediatricians and will also consider pediatricians from other subspecialties with an interest in child abuse and neglect. The remainder of the candidate’s clinical time will be in their respective specialty.
We are recruiting for either a Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Series (HSCP) at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank (commensurate with credentials). All candidates will be expected to participate in clinical care in their respective divisions, teach medical students, residents and fellows, and serve on departmental committees. The Clinical X Series requires research for advancement. The HSCP series does not require research for advancement.
UC Davis Medical Center is a level 1 regional pediatric trauma center. We see 80-100 cases per year of suspected child physical abuse. Child abuse evaluations all occur in inpatient units (pediatric wards, pediatric ICU) or in our pediatric emergency department. Our current child protection team is comprised of two Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialists, one of whom has extensive experience in the field of child abuse. In addition to providing consultations on abusive injuries in children, the Department of Pediatrics provides a medical home in one of our primary care clinics for children in Sacramento County residing in foster care.
With more than 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, the Children’s Hospital is a 118- bed hospital housed within the 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center. It is the only designated Children’s Hospital in the Sacramento region, and is known for offering comprehensive, compassionate, family-centered care. UC Davis Children’s Hospital is distinguished for its outstanding congenital heart program and its internationally recognized telemedicine programs. Within the last few years, UC Davis Children’s Hospital built a new 49- bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a new 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
The UC Davis Children’s Hospital is based on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, California and serves a population of over 1 million children in the Northern California, Central Valley and Western Nevada regions. Sacramento is an easily accessible, family-oriented city near the San Francisco Bay area, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the California coast, and Napa Valley.
