The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Systems Biology (MCSB) at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in RNA biology, including systems biology starting July 1, 2025. The purpose of this position is to address any aspect of RNA function in normal physiology, disease, and therapy. These include RNA biogenesis, modifications, structure, translation, stability, surveillance, and localization; RNA regulatory networks, as well as identification and characterization of the roles of non-coding regulatory RNAs (small RNAs and long non-coding RNAs). Candidates using advanced bioinformatic and systems biology tools as well as advanced RNA technologies across multiple areas of RNA biology are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a record of original, cutting-edge research accomplishments in the field of RNA biology, including systems biology approaches and/or making contributions to the development of novel RNA-based technologies and therapies. The candidate will also have demonstrated a potential for attracting extramural funding. At UCR, the candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent, and internationally recognized research program. The candidate will advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, and develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in molecular, cell and systems biology related disciplines. The candidate is also expected to engage in university and extramural service activities.

The position will synergize with and expand the growing multidisciplinary Center for RNA Biology and Medicine at UCR and will build on existing campus strengths in genomics, proteomics, epigenetics and biochemical regulation in model organisms and humans. Faculty expertise includes molecular and cellular biology, epigenetic/epitranscriptomic and metabolic control, non-coding RNAs, chromatin structure, transcription regulation, DNA repair, stem cell biology, cancer, infectious diseases, microbiome, neuroscience and aging. The successful candidate will have access to all UCR research infrastructure, including modern core facilities for bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics/metabolomics, and microscopy, a high-performance computing cluster, and animal facilities. The posted UC salary scales ($78,200 to $101,400 for this position) set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Additional “off-scale” and other components of pay are negotiated when necessary to meet competitive conditions. The off-scale portion of the salary will be maintained as long as satisfactory academic progress is made. Additionally, the off-scale will be maintained subject to market adjustments to the UC salary scale.

Basic qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of application include:

  • A PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in life science or related disciplines.
    Preferred qualifications for this position include evidence of high-quality independent research, such as publications and grants or awards.

Advancement through the Professorial ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
