Position title: Assistant Professor of Black Studies Salary range: The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at the time of appointment. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay, i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. Position description
The Department seeks social scientists and humanities scholars whose research is informed by Critical Disability Studies, Black Feminisms, Black Queer and Trans Studies, Environmental Justice, and Carceral Studies, among other specialties. Engaged, multi-modal, creative, collaborative and/or activist approaches are also welcome. Potential specializations include:
The successful candidate will join a pioneering Black Studies program with strengths in Black Queer and Trans Studies, Political Economies of Afro Latin American and the Caribbean, and African Diaspora Intellectual Traditions. An engagement with teaching and university service that addresses the needs of Black people is expected of all candidates. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.
