Position description
Candidates will be expected to conduct research in the field of organic chemistry or other related areas and will be expected to contribute to ongoing course development and evidence-based instruction in undergraduate organic and introductory chemistry lecture and laboratory for both majors and non-majors.
This faculty series is unique to the University of California system, carries full membership in the Academic Senate with comparable rights and responsibilities as the standard professorial track, but with a greater emphasis on teaching and educational scholarship. As UC San Diego is on a quarter system, Teaching Professors in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry typically teach five course sections over three quarters per academic year. Participation in the Department, School, College, University, and/or outside professional or public service through committee and other administrative work is also expected. Overall, Teaching Professors are evaluated on these criteria, in order of importance: (1) teaching excellence, (2) professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity, and (3) University and public service.
The Department is committed to equity and inclusion in undergraduate and graduate education and advancing chemistry education at UC San Diego and beyond through research and its dissemination in areas including, but not limited to: learning sciences, discipline-based education research, scholarship of teaching and learning, curriculum and assessment, and/or educational outreach. Applications should include a statement describing contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion. See the following links for more information on UC San Diego’s (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/) and School of Physical Sciences (https://physicalsciences.ucsd.edu/diversity/contributions-to-diversity-statements.html) diversity initiatives.
