We are currently accepting applications for provisional (temporary) positions to assist in the Veterinary Technology Program at Ventura College.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill a temporary assignment and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, assist instructors and Instructional Lab Technicians in the implementation of the Veterinary Technology program.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura – so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

The Veterinary Technology Associate of Science Degree Program is two-tier pathway that begins with a Veterinary Assistant Certificate of Achievement. The program develops students for careers within the veterinary and animal healthcare industry as veterinary technicians and also prepares them to take the national licensing exam to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Representative Duties

Under the guidance of an instructor, assist students individually, or in small groups, reinforce or follow up on instructions. E

Assist instructors and staff in the demonstration of the proper care and handling of animals. E

Assist instructors and staff in the preparation, set-up, and clean-up of specialized instruments, equipment, and materials used for class presentations, teaching demonstrations, student projects, and practical assignments. E

Under the guidance of an instructor, demonstrate the operation, use, and care of a variety of tools and equipment including radiology machines, anesthesia machines, blood machines, large and small animal handling and restraint equipment, patient monitors, various supplies, needles, and syringes, autoclave, surgical instruments, ultrasound, and ultrasound cleaner. Participate in ensuring that the safety and security policies and rules of the veterinary technology laboratory courses are observed. E

Meet with instructors and/or staff to plan learning activities for the veterinary technology laboratory. E

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of high school or other educational equivalent AND two years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.

OR

Successful completion of a Veterinary Assistant program AND one year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
