Description

This recruitment is being conducted to fill a temporary assignment and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.

There is currently one temporary vacancy located at Moorpark College. This assignment will be 34 hours/week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, a Library Assistant performs a variety of specialized clerical tasks in support of the library and provides general and technical assistance to library patrons.

Representative Duties

Provide routine information to library patrons and staff concerning library materials, services, policies, programs, and general information about the library. E

Perform routine circulation work by checking out, renewing, and receiving print, non-print, digital media, and equipment; process overdue notices; calculate, collect, and record library fees for lost or overdue materials; issue receipts for fees paid. E

Copy catalog and process incoming materials including books, magazines, newspapers, college catalogs, periodicals, and electronic resources; prepare library materials for shelving and distribution; remove records of discarded materials from library catalog; document and resolve inventory discrepancies, including contacting vendors and publishers to resolve discrepancies as needed. E

Assist library patrons with the basic operation of equipment such as computers, copiers, printers, and scanners. E

Assist library staff in preserving, digitizing, and maintaining special collections such as reserves, textbook lending, rare books, periodicals, reference, and digital media. E

Prepare and submit interlibrary loan requests for both loaned and borrowed materials; maintain interlibrary loan records. E

Maintain library stacks, including shelving materials, shelf-reading, shifting, and cleaning. E

Check condition of library materials, removing from circulation damaged items in need of repair; repair damaged and worn items as appropriate. E

File, duplicate, compile, update, and maintain records and reports regarding circulation and library services; update library website as directed. E

Assist with processing requisitions and invoices for annual database renewals, periodical subscriptions, and library supplies and equipment.

Train and provide work direction to student workers as assigned.

Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E

Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E

E = Essential duties

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency AND six months of experience performing clerical or higher-level tasks that require the use of a computer, with frequent public contact.

Library experience preferred.
