Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and forward-looking leader to serve as the dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  The next dean of the college will be passionate about making a difference, dedicated to excellence, and eager to join a vibrant community of scholars and change-makers.  The new dean will join a college that is a catalyst for progress, a platform for individuals with the vision and drive to shape the future of agriculture and life sciences, and the embodiment of the land-grant philosophy and mission of Virginia Tech in all its diverse teaching, research, extension, development, international, and service and outreach activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate and a distinguished record of scholarly activity that would qualify for the rank of professor.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in collaboration with many constituencies.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership in higher education or of a complex agricultural/life sciences enterprise.
  • Experience in leading or managing a major research program.
  • Commitment to the mission of a land grant university.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, administration, and personnel and fiscal management.
