Large Drop in Black Enrollments at California Community Colleges: The California Community College system is the largest higher education system in the United States. The system includes 109 colleges statewide and serves more than 2.5 million students. In the spring of 2005, blacks made up 7.3 percent of all degree-program enrollments.

University of Kentucky Wants Answers to Why Black Enrollments Have Plummeted: Blacks as well as whites in Kentucky were shocked this past fall when the state's flagship public university announced that black first-year enrollments had dropped by 40 percent.

Very Few Black Colleges and Universities Require an Application Essay: JBHE has surveyed a large number of historically black colleges and universities to determine if they require students to write application essays. Most do not.
