Clarence Armbrister to Step Down in June From Presidency of Johnson C. Smith University
Clarence Armbrister became the fourteenth president of the historically Black university on January 1, 2018. He had been president of Girard College, an independent college preparatory school in Philadelphia. Previously, he was senior vice president and chief of staff at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and executive vice president and chief operating officer at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The American Museum of Natural History in New York Names its First Black President
The American Museum of Natural History was founded in 1869. In 2006, the museum established the Richard Gilder Graduate School which includes a Ph.D. granting program in comparative biology within the museum. It also offers a master's degree in teaching program. Sean Decatur, president of Kenyon College in Ohio, will begin leading the museum in April.

Emory University Has Announced the Debut of a Ph.D. Program in African American Studies
Emory University states that the doctoral program is the first of its kind in the southeastern United States and the first at a private university in the entire South. Each student in the program will receive specialized training in one of three fields: gender and sexuality; social justice and social movements; or expressive arts and cultures. The first students will enroll in the fall of 2023.
