University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Names Its Next Chancellor
Dr. Thomas Gibson has been serving since 2016 as vice president for student affairs and vice provost at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Previously, he was associate vice president of student affairs at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Gibson will take on new duties in January.
Byron Hughes Named Dean of Students at Virginia Tech
Dr. Hughes began his career at Virginia Tech in 2008 as the assistant director for student conduct. Since 2013, he has been serving as the university's director of fraternity and sorority life. Prior to coming to Blacksburg, he worked in residential life positions at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and Salisbury University in Maryland.
Darrell Cain Appointed President of Pierce College-Puyallup in Washington State
Dr. Cain has been serving as vice chancellor for student affairs for Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis. When he takes office, Dr. Cain will be the first African American to serve as permanent president of the Puyallup campus.
Four Universities Receive National Park Service Grants for Preservation Projects
The National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior has announced a series of grants totaling more than Q$12 million to preserve key sites relating to African American history. Four universities are among the organizations receiving grants.
Velvet Brown Named Distinguished Professor at Pennsylvania State University
Professor Brown joined the faculty at Pennsylvania State University in 2003 as a professor of tuba and euphonium. Earlier in her career, she served on the faculty at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Michael Tidwell to Be the Next President of the University of Texas at Tyler
Michael V. Tidwell has been named the sole finalist to become president of the University of Texas at Tyler. Under state law, the board must wait 21 days after the announcement to make the appointment official. Tidwell is dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University.

Indiana Eliminates Higher Education Grants for Prison Inmates
Ball State University has been offering educational programs to more than 1,000 prison inmates but state budget cuts are gutting the program.
