Tonya Butler was appointed chair of music business and management at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Samuel Johnson was named interim chair of the department of radiology at Wayne State University in Detroit and Tracy Dunbar will head the agriculture department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

Here is this week’s roundup of African Americans who have been appointed to new administrative positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Taking on new roles are Audrey Bennett of the University of Michigan, Billy Childs at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Stephanie Y. Evans at Georgia State University, and William C. McCoy at Clemson University in South Carolina.

Assuming new duties are Dorinda Carter Andrews at Michigan State University, Nkiru Nzegwu at Binghamton University in New York, Enobong "Anna" Branch at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and Sean K. Skeete at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Taking on new teaching assignments are Robert Moses at Mills College in Oakland, Harold Briggs at the University of Georgia, Philip Lima at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Demarre McGill at the University of Cincinnati, and Tyree Daye at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Kelli V. Randall, a professor of English, has been named vice president of academic affairs at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina, and Walter Smith III has been named chair of the woodwind department at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Williams serves as a professor of composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He holds a bachelor's degree from Herbert Lehman College of the City University of New York and a master of music education degree from the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

Taking on new administrative roles are Krystal Prime Banfield at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Brigette A. Bryant at the City University of New York, and Carol Burton at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Dr. Carter was named president of Columbia College in Chicago in 2000. He was the first African American to hold the post.

The Formation Scholar awards at Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College were established "to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious, and confident."

Duane Lee Holland Jr. has been hired as the first hip-hop dance faculty member at the Boston Conservatory. Sydney Freeman Jr. of the University of Idaho is named a certified online instructor and Emily Greenwood was named chair of the department of classics at Yale University.
