Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza Will Be the Thirteenth President of West Valley College in California
Dr. Taylor-Mendoza has over 20 years of experience in the California Community College system, serving in a variety of roles. Since 2021, Dr. Taylor-Mendoza has served as the president of the College of San Mateo in California. She will become president of West Valley College on August 24.

Edward L. Robinson Jr. was a lecturer in African American studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at California State University, Fullerton. He had taught at the university since 2011.

Vievee Francis to Receive the 2017 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award

Two African American Academics Win National Book Critic Circle Awards

Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran, President of Kalamazoo College, to Retire
Dr. Wilson-Oyelaran has served as the 17th president of the college since July 2005. A native of Los Angeles, Dr. Wilson-Oyelaran taught at the University of Ife in Nigeria for 14 years before returning to the U.S. in 1988.
Simmons College Professor Awarded Distinguished Poetry Prize
Afaa Michael Weaver is the winner of the $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award given by Claremont Graduate University to a mid-career poet so that they "can continue working towards the pinnacle of their craft."
