In 1995, Dr. McPhail was named the first woman and first African American president of Cypress College in California, where she served for three years. Over two decades later, she served as president of historically Black St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dr. Jones has been serving as vice president for business services at Moreno Valley College of the Riverside Community College District in California. Earlier in his career, Dr. Jones held administrative and faculty positions at the University of California, Riverside; Pepperdine University; Dartmouth College; Northern Arizona University; and the University of Maryland.

The community college has a diverse student population with Blacks, Whites, Latinos, and Asians all making up at least 14 percent but not more than 29 percent of the student body, according to the latest Department of Education data.
