The study by researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University found that admissions counselors were 26 percent less likely to respond to emails from Black students interested in racial justice. White male counselors were twice as likely to respond to Black women interested in environmental studies compared to racial studies.
The new bachelor's degree programs, which will begin this fall, are in physical and teacher education, health, leisure, and fitness studies, two bachelor's degree programs in interdisciplinary studies, and two programs in environmental studies.
Dr. Rogers will take office on July 1. Currently, he is dean of the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers and previously was the university's associate provost.
