Dr. Thompson's appointment marks a return to Union Theological Seminary, where she previously taught for three years. Most recently, she was the Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Black Homiletics & Liturgics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Taking on new assignments are Gbemende Johnson at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Dwight Radcliff Jr. at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, Raymond E. Samuel at North Carolina A&T State University, and Martha Dawson of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Willie James Jennings was an associate professor of theology and Black church studies at Duke University Divinity School. He is the the 2015 winner of the $100,000 Grawemeyer Award in Religion.
