Mordecai Brownlee Will Be the Next President of the Community College of Aurora in Colorado
Dr. Brownlee has been serving as vice president for student success at St. Philip's College in San Antonio, Texas. Earlier, he held positions at the University of Charleston in West Virginia, Blinn College District in Texas, and Houston Baptist University. Dr, Brownlee will assume his new duties on July 15.
Amilcar Shabazz Becomes President of the National Council for Black Studies
Dr. Shabazz is a professor in the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Previously, he served as director of the American studies program, and founding director of the Center for African Studies & Development at Oklahoma State University.
Four African Americans Appointed to New Faculty Positions
Taking on new faculty roles are Clara Small at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Maria Dixon Hall at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Natalie Tindall at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and Archie Taylor at Alcorn State University in Mississippi.
In Memoriam: Bettye Lois Grigsby, 1966-2016
Dr. Grigsby was an associate professor of educational leadership at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She also served as chair of the department of leadership and policy analysis and was chair of the doctorate of education in educational leadership program at the university.
