Wayne Dawkins, professor of professional practice in the School of Global Journalism & Communication at Morgan State University, is the 2021 recipient of the Barry Bingham Sr. Fellowship. The award, given in recognition of an educator’s outstanding efforts to encourage students of color in the field of journalism.

Anna Deavere Smith is a professor of art and public policy at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. An actress, playwright, and performance artist, Smith is the first winner of the Polk Award who is not a traditional journalist.

Appointed to new positions are Charles J. Gibb at Miles College, Krystal Toups at Rice University, Sedgwick Harris at Northampton Community College, Kimberly Hewitt at Johns Hopkins University, Erika K. Davis at Neumann University, and Edward Summers at Long Island University.

Dr. Griffith is a senior fellow at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the former president of Fort Valley State University in Georgia. He is being honored by the William J. Perry Center for Hemisphere Defense Studies in Washington.

Dr. Scott is an associate professor in the department of women and gender studies at Arizona State University. She is also the founding executive director of the Center for Gender Equity in Science and Technology at Arizona State.

Frank K. Ross, the director of the Center for Accounting Education at the Howard University School of Business, received the 2014 Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

Michael J.K. Bokor, assistant professor of English at Long Island University in New York, is the first African scholar to serve as a full-time faculty member in the university’s English department since the establishment of LIU in 1926.
