Virginia lawmakers have voted to extend the work of a commission currently investigating how four historically Black communities were affected by the expansion of Virginia Commonwealth University, Christopher Newport University, the University of Virginia, and Longwood University.

Longwood University is a four-year, state-operated educational institution. Today, it enrolls about 4,500 undergraduate students and more than 400 graduate students. Blacks make up approximately 8 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Since 2005 she has been dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Longwood University in Virginia.
