Dr. Jones has been serving as Mississippi Delta Community College's vice president of administrative and student services. He is slated to become the institution's 10th president on January 1.

Dr. Buckner-Brown brings over two decades of experience in higher education and public health to her new role. She has recently served as Alcorn's interim provost and associate provost for undergraduate education and success.

Dr. Wallace's appointment makes her the first alumna and employee of a historically Black college or university to serve as the association's president. She is an alumna of both Alcorn State University and Jackson State University, where she currently teaches in the College of Education.

"I am honored to serve as the next president of Saint Xavier University and look forward to working with this remarkable student-centered, mission-focused community," said Dr. Elder, currently the executive vice president at Mississippi College.

Dr. Thompson has more than 20 years of leadership experience in early childhood, K-12 education, and higher education. He has been serving as the deputy commissioner and chief administrative officer of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, where for over a decade he has been responsible for overseeing IHL staff.

In 1954, a unanimous Supreme Court in the case Brown v. Board of Education called for the desegregation of public schools that were segregated as a matter of law. But Brown never became all that it could be.

Professor Angela Mae Kupenda of the Mississippi College of Law offers a commentary on parents' and other caregivers' responsibility to put African American children on the path to success through higher education.

The new appointees are Funmi Ojetayo at Florida A&M, Derrick E. Echoles at Mississippi College, Cheryl Johnson at Kansas State, Binti Harvey at Scripps College, Lesia Crumpton-Young at Tennessee State, and Martella M. Nelson at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
