Kevin James Reinstated as President of Morris Brown College

One week after their abrupt removal of Morris Brown College President Kevin James, the HBCU's board of trustees has reversed their decision, reinstating Dr. James as the college's nineteenth president.

A Change in Leadership at Morris Brown College in Atlanta

Kevin James, president of Morris Brown College, has been removed from office by the HBCU's board of trustees. In a recent Facebook post, Dr. James wrote, “This action is deeply concerning. Research and my lived experience demonstrate that many HBCUs have struggled with board overreach and interference. Unfortunately, those dynamics are evident in this situation.”

In Memoriam: Leonard E. Dawson, 1934-2025

Dr. Dawson served as the seventh president of Voorhees College (now University) from 1985 to 2001. Prior to his presidency, he was director of special projects for the United Negro College Fund.

Toneyce Sheree Randolph Named Chief Academic Officer at Bennett College

Dr. Randolph has extensive experience leading academic affairs at historically Black colleges. Prior to her new role, she was the chief academic officer at both Morris Brown College in Atlanta and Clinton College in South Carolina.

The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to Donate $50 Million to HBCUs in Atlanta

Over the next ten years, the new funding will provide gap scholarships to students at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, and Spelman College who are close to completing their degrees, but face financial challenges that could prevent them from finishing.

Morris Brown College Graduates Now Have A Clear Path to Law School

Morris Brown College in Atlanta Is Once Again Fully Accredited

Historically Black Morris Brown College in Atlanta was founded in 1881 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 2002, the college lost its accreditation due to an unstable financial position. Now, 20 years later, Morris Brown College is once again fully accredited.

Morris Brown College Can Once Again Participate in Federal Financial Aid Programs

In April, Morris Brown College in Atlanta announced that it has received accreditation candidacy by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. The college had lost accreditation in 2002. As a result of the new accreditation status, the college has been approved to once again participate in federal financial aid programs.

In Memoriam: Karl Von Binns Sr., 1951-2021

Dr. Binns taught in the department of hospitality and tourism management at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for more than 22 years. He was the first African American to play varsity basketball at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Morris Brown College in Atlanta Granted Accreditation Candidacy

In 2002, Morris Brown College lost its accreditation due to an unstable financial position. The college filed for and later re-emerged from bankruptcy. Enrollments slowed to a trickle. Now with the announcement that it is a candidate for accreditation, students at Morris Brown will now once again be eligible for federal financial aid programs including Pell grants.
