The academics taking on new positions are Percy Mack at South Carolina State University, Ronett Jacobs at Alverno College in Milwaukee, and Stephen Philip Harvey at Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's joint public radio station.
The two universities have renewed an academic partnership that will now allow students to earn a bachelor's degree in physics at Salisbury University and a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in four and a half years.
Janet Wormack is the new vice president of administration and finance at Salisbury University in Maryland. Dasha Lundy has been named chief operating officer at Knoxville College in Tennessee and Chavis Paulk is the new vice president for finance and administration at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Taking on new administrative roles in higher education are Mikki Allen at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Doneisha Posey at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, TaJuan Wilson at Georgia Southern University, and Joan Williams at Salisbury University in Maryland.
Charles Wright, president of Salisbury University, canceled classes for one day after racist graffiti was found in two campus buildings. A day later, the university announced that a suspect had been identified.
The latest incident included the threat of violence. The message scrawled on a stairway wall contained a racial slur and referred to the massacre at a Connecticut elementary school that left 26 people dead.
Dr. Hughes began his career at Virginia Tech in 2008 as the assistant director for student conduct. Since 2013, he has been serving as the university's director of fraternity and sorority life. Prior to coming to Blacksburg, he worked in residential life positions at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and Salisbury University in Maryland.
The partnership will allow qualified students who are majoring in chemistry at Salisbury University and who have completed three years of study to gain admission to the professional pharmacy degree program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Darrell Newton will also serve as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. Dr. Newton has been serving as associate dean in the Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury University in Maryland.
The new medical school would be a satellite campus of the University of Maryland Baltimore County but would incorporate the health education and research programs at Salisbury University and the historically Black University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
