The three African Americans appointed to diversity posts in higher education are Christopher Smith at the Arkansas College of Health Education in Fort Smith, Dana Murray Patterson at Wingate University in North Carolina, and Keisha Booker at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
Taking on new roles as diversity officers are Anthony Jones at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, Shavonne Shorter at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Bruce King at Elmhurst University in Illinois, and Thomas Witherspoon at the University of Tampa in Florida.
B. Stephen Carpenter II joined the faculty at Pennsylvania State University in 2011. He is a professor of art education and African American studies and has been serving as interim director of the School of Visual Arts at the university.
Linda R. Daniels worked for Ohio University for 18 years, most recently as director of multicultural programs. Earlier, she was on the staff at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for 14 years.
