The appointments are Cassandra Hawkins at Jackson State University in Mississippi, Malikah Pitts Harvey at St. Philip's College in Texas, Karla Miller at Alabama A&M University, Brandon Thorne at the Universities Space Research Association, and Sheleah D. Reed at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.
The bipartisan coalition was formed to advance educational opportunities at Texas' HBCUs. The student group and Texas Representative Ron Reynolds have recently filed a bill with the state government that, if passed, would advance funding and educational opportunities at HBCUS in Texas.
Dr. Gloria Jackson had a career in higher education that spanned five decades. From 1982 to 1984, she served as president of St. Philip's College in Texas, a historically Black community college within the Alamo Colleges District.
