In honor of its fifth anniversary, the Center for African & African American Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder has received a $2 million, five-year investment from the University of Colorado System.
Marcia Douglas was named a Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. Regina Davis was appointed assistant vice provost for online learning and extended learning at North Carolina A&T State University and Kamal Kariem is a new assistant professor of anthropology at Bates College in Maine.
Andre Payne, Jessie Grant, and Janel Forde are taking on new roles at Talladega College, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and the University of Colorado Boulder, respectively.
Johnson Sirleaf was the first woman democratically elected head of state in Africa. She was elected president of Libera in 2005 - just two years after the end of a decades-long civil war.
"I know my collection is in good hands," says Otis Taylor. "My hope is that future students and scholars will continue to learn about the evolution of American blues and its significance in world music."
The Black scholars appointed to new posts are Deval L. Patrick at Harvard University, Kristie Soares at the University of Colorado Boulder, Kirsten Pai Buick at the University of New Mexico, and Jane Okech at the University of Vermont.
