Taking on new administrative duties at colleges and universities are Rolundus Rice at Tuskegee University in Alabama, Marquisha Frost at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Tiffany Murphy at Dillard University in New Orleans, Joe Brooks at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Joy L. Jefferson at Hampton University in Virginia, and John Gardner at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Taking on new administrative roles are Michelle Penn-Marshall at Texas Southern University in Houston, Desmond Stubbs at Oak Ridge Associated Universities, based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Olajide Cooper at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Adrian Dowell was appointed vice chancellor of athletics at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Kimberly Holmes-Iverson will serve as director of public relations at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Rashad Richey has been named director of institutional advancement and corporate relations at Morris Brown College in Atlanta.

A native of Forsyth, Georgia, Lofton's grandfather was the founder of what is now Grambling State University in Louisiana. She served as a faculty member and administrator for the University of Nebraska-Omaha for more than 30 years.

Willie Fleming, chief diversity officer at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, is retiring. Cecil Hicks, Jr., of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Edward J. Lewis III, of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts are taking positions outside of higher education.

Dr. Conyers, who began his career teaching at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, joined the faculty at the University of Houston in 2002. He has been credited with shaping and transforming the University of Houston’s African American studies program.

Here is this week’s roundup of African Americans who have been appointed to new administrative positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Taking on new roles are David Valentine at the Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, Aileen Warren at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Keith Smith at Tacoma Community College in Washington, Stuart Robinson at New York University, and Franklin A. Tuitt at the University of Connecticut.

Appointed to new administrative posts are Cheryl Isaac at Pennsylvania State University, Brandon Martin at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Makayla McMorris at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Delores Richardson Harris at North Carolina Central University, and Marco Barker at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dr. Morrice was vice provost at the University of Missouri in charge of enrollment management and strategic development. Earlier, he was the chief enrollment officer at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and associate vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Ethel Hill Williams, the Reynolds Professor of public affairs and director of the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Carolyn B. Brooks, professor of microbiology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, are retiring.

Since 2006 Dr. Baker had been serving as dean of the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Earlier, she was a professor in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida.
