George C. Wright, the seventh president of historically Black Prairie View A&M University in Texas, announced that he will step down as soon as an interim replacement is named. Dr. Wright, who became president of the university in 2003, will remain at the university as a professor of history.
Dr. Vivian Lilly was academic dean at the San Antonio, Texas, campus of the Galen College of Nursing. Earlier in her career she taught nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington and Dallas Baptist University.
Sonja Stephenson Watson was promoted to associate professor of Spanish at the University of Texas at Arlington. She will also serve as director of the women's and gender studies program at the university.
Keith W. McIntosh, Shakeela J. Hunter, Wanda S. Mitchell, Sharon T. Stoddard, and Deborah F. Dent will be assuming new duties.
The new Center for African American Studies will conduct an oral history project involving its earliest Black alumni.
