Experiment in Problem Solving Finds Whites Pay Less Attention to the Ideas of Their Black Peers
Researchers from Columbia University and the University of Texas at Dallas gave a puzzle to a diverse group of participants. Each person was able to see how their peers solved the same puzzle and could choose whether to learn from them. They found that participants were 33 percent more likely to pay attention to and learn from White peers compared to Black ones.
Professor Wins $375,000 Jury Verdict in Unlawful Retaliation Lawsuit
In 2014, Dr. Nicholas Alozie claims he was passed over for promotion as dean of the College of Letters and Sciences at Arizona State University due to the fact that he criticized the university's hiring process and record on faculty diversity during his initial interview. A jury has awarded him $375,000, agreeing that Dr. Alozie was a victim of illegal retaliation. The university has vowed to fight the verdict.
William Tate IV Will Be the First Black President of a University in the Southeastern Conference
Dr. Tate has been serving as the Education Foundation Distinguished Professor, executive vice president for academic affairs, and provost at the University of South Carolina since July 2020. Professor Tate served as dean of the Graduate School and vice provost for graduate education at Washington University in St. Louis.

William F. Tate IV was named executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Tate, who is currently the dean of the Graduate School at Washington University in St. Louis, will be the first African American to serve as provost at the university.

Mary Evans Sias Is Leaving the Presidency of Kentucky State University
Dr. Silas has been president at Kentucky State since 2004. She is the only woman serving as president of any state-operated university in Kentucky. Before coming to Kentucky State, Dr. Sias was an administrator at the University of Texas at Dallas.
