Since 2013, Dr. Anderson has been provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Previously, she served as a faculty member and an administrator at the University of Kentucky for 11 years.

Xavier University of Louisiana Names Its Next President

Since 2012, C. Reynold Verret has served as provost and chief academic officer at Savannah State University in Georgia. On July 1, he will replace Norman C. Francis who has led Xavier University since 1968.

Helen Giles-Gee Leaves Presidency of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia

Dr. Giles-Gee became the 22nd president of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in July 2012. She was the first woman and the first African American president in the nearly 200-year history of the university.

Three African American Scholars Taking on New Assignments

Kesha Williams was named director of digital marketing at Clemson University. Helen Giles-Gee was named to the board of the University City Science Center and Woodrow Whitlow Jr. was appointed executive-in-residence at Cleveland State University.

When Dr. Anderson takes office in July, the university's two highest officials, president and provost, both will be African American women. Helen F. Giles-Gee became the university's president a year ago. Only 6 percent of the undergraduate student body at the university is Black.
