Dr. Martin served as chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University from 2009 to 2023. Throughout his long tenure, the university experienced substantial growth in enrollment, and is now the largest HBCU in the country.

Over the past fifty years, a team of researchers have tracked 104 predominately Black participants from infancy to adulthood to determine how early childhood education affects their long term outcomes. Although they received the same education, Black boys had significantly lower cognitive scores than Black girls once they reached high school and beyond.

The appointments are Rhea Roper Nedd at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Robert Shorty at Grand Valley State University, Rassheedah "Eda" Watts at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, Janice Hall at Virginia Tech, and Romona West at the University of Arkansas.

In the late 1970s, Valentine was named assistant director of admissions at Virginia Tech, making him one of the first Black employees who were alumni of the university. During the first 10 years of his tenure in the university's admissions office, Black student enrollment more than quadrupled.

The appointments are Jennifer Wiggins at Virginia Tech, Kimberly Woodard at Stillman College, Robert Earl at Borough of Manhattan Community College, Parnell Lovelace at Jessup University, and Tim Abney at Lincoln University of Missouri.

The new appointees are Elisa A. Mitchell, Keisha Green, Hayden Dawes, Sherritta Michelle Williams, Walter Lee, Breonte Guy, and Quin'Nita Cobbins-Modica.

The faculty appointments are Sonya Smith at Howard University, Asha Shepard at Goucher College, Kim Grainger at North Carolina State University, Adegbenga Bankola at Virginia Tech, and La Marr Jurelle Bruce at Stanford University.

Dr. Martin brings decades of experiences in engineering research and academic leadership to his new role. He has been serving as the vice chancellor for STEM research and innovation at the University of Pittsburgh.

Peddrew was the first African American to enroll in Virginia Tech. While he attended the university, the school's administration required Peddrew to live off campus. Fifty years later, the university dedicated a residential hall in his honor.

Lydia Sermons, Robert Jackson, David Robinson-Morris, and Jonathan Miller are taking on new leadership roles at Howard University, Virginia Tech, Dartmouth College, and North Shore Community College, respectively.

Ozzie Abaye, the Thomas B. Hutcheson Jr. Professor of Agronomy at Virginia Tech, has received with the 2023 Excellence in College and University Teaching Award for Food and Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Abaye states, "Teaching is not what I do for a living, but what I do to live."
