In Memoriam: Colleen J. McElroy, 1935-2023
In 1983, Dr. McElroy became the first Black woman to serve as a full-time faculty member at the University of Washington. From 1995 to 2007, Professor McElroy served as editor of The Seattle Review, a literary magazine based at the university.
In Memoriam: Reneé Patricia Collins, 1950-2022
While working for Western Washington University Dr. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies at the age of 47. She went on to earn a master's degree in adult education at Western Washington University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Seattle University.
Fallou Ngom Named Director of the African Studies Center at Boston University
Fallou Ngom, associate professor of anthropology, was named director of Boston University’s African Studies Center. The center was established in 1953. More than 90 Boston University faculty members are affiliated with the center.
